Scholarships

School and Beyond awards merit-based scholarships to SB Scholars across the United States and Ghana

Theresa and Charles Odei Scholarship

Awards $200 to five university students from low-income families in Ghana who demonstrate academic excellence and professional promise. In addition to funding, students will be paired with a mentor in the United States to guide them toward their professional goals.

This scholarship honors the values of Theresa and Charles Odei who emigrated from Ghana to the United States and were committed to ensuring that their children were raised with the right values and received quality education.

Application Criteria​

  • Attends a university in Ghana and has a track record of academic excellence

  • Demonstrates leadership on campus and in the broader community while making a positive impact on others 

  • Meets our household income requirement

Elisheba and Maya Odei Scholarship

Gives $1,000 to two Black/African-American females who are U.S. high-school seniors from low-income families and have demonstrated interest and achievement in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Scholarship recipients will also receive mentorship and support as they complete an application to a relevant entrepreneurship program. 

 

Only 2% of STEM jobs are held by Black women in the United States. Elisheba and Maya Odei are African-American women who are successfully pursuing careers in medicine and software engineering/bioengineering, respectively. This scholarship honors their constant pursuit for excellence.

Application Criteria

  • Black/African-American female and graduating high-school senior 

  • Has STEM interest and excellent academic record

  • Exhibits entrepreneurial spirit and is full of creativity and originality 

  • Demonstrates leadership on campus and in the broader community while making a positive impact on others 

  • Meets our household income requirement

school and beyond scholarship

Provides $500 to three SB Scholars who are U.S. high school seniors and have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, leadership potential, and community service. Scholarship recipients will also be matched with a mentor who has a similar background and interests. 

Application Criteria

  • Graduating high school senior in the United States

  • Excellent academic record 

  • Has identified and is able to articulate both short and long term goals 

  • Demonstrates leadership on campus and in the broader community while making a positive impact on others

  • Meets our household income requirement

Application Timeline

March - June:

Students may apply for School and Beyond scholarships

June:

Deadline to apply for scholarships

 

July:

Finalists will be invited to interview virtually 

 

August - September: 

Awards will be announced

Note: This is only an expected timeline and is subject to change. The above scholarships are internal School and Beyond scholarships and will be awarded to students in our SB Scholars Program. Our team has put together external scholarship resources below for the benefit of all students.
