New Social Media Platforms
Before diving in, we'd like to (re)introduce our social media channels! Our new fellows, Sarah Chowdhury and Esha Banerjee, have been hard at work enhancing our overall social media presence. SB Scholars Program
School and Beyond has developed a robust program, SB Scholars Program, for Black/African-American U.S. high school juniors and Ghanaian university students. The program guides a cohort of intellectually curious changemakers to excel in college and careers, learn industry skills, network with professionals, and receive mentorship, college application, and scholarship support. Our inaugural cohort, launched in February 2024, received over 89 student applications and has already collaborated with more than 45 speakers, instructors, fellows, interns, and mentors. We are excited to build on this success and continue expanding our impact. Stay tuned in the coming months for updates on how students, parents, and volunteers can join our next cohort.
Curriculum
School and Beyond has designed 4 interactive, online courses in computer science, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and health and wellness. These courses are taught by knowledgeable individuals and industry experts with experience at some of the nation’s most prestigious institutions. Each course offers informative lessons on emerging industry trends, hands-on exercises to develop practical skills, student projects to showcase takeaways, and valuable resources for continued learning. Speaker Series
Through our Speaker Series, students in our program also have the opportunity to explore different career pathways, learn about emerging industry topics, and ask questions to professionals in business, law, entrepreneurship, engineering, and a variety of other fields. If you are interested in sharing your experiences, work, and industry insight, we invite you to sign up to be a speaker.
Mentorship
In recognition of the unique challenges faced by students from historically underrepresented backgrounds, School and Beyond pairs each student with a mentor who shares similar academic interests, career inspirations, and life experiences. Mentors serve as role models and work closely with their mentees to set and achieve academic goals, prepare college applications, and develop career skills such as resume-building and interviewing. If you’re a supportive and driven early-career professional with a strong desire to give back, we encourage you to consider becoming a mentor.
Scholarships
School and Beyond provides college scholarships to support its students in their pursuit of higher education. Last fall, we were delighted to interview scholarship recipients Samuel and Isaac. College Application Support
We offer a growing range of college application support resources to help students and parents successfully navigate the admissions process. This includes expert college advising labs, free standardized test prep with Edison Prep for the SAT and ACT, personalized Common Application essay reviews, and a curated collection of valuable resources, including links for essay writing, financial aid guidance, and organizational tools.
SB Scholars Program Fall 2024 Applications
Applications for the 2025 School and Beyond Scholars Program will open in fall 2024! Students in the program will have a chance to enjoy a wide range of experiences, including academic enrichment, career exploration, and resources to support their educational and professional growth. Prospective students can express their interest by completing our form for U.S. students or Ghanaian students.
Our Team
School and Beyond is excited to introduce our current team, whose dedication has been instrumental in sustaining and expanding our incredible programs. Brad LeFever has supported the organization since summer 2023, while Sarah Chowdhury and Esha Banerjee joined the Fellowship Program this past summer in order to help drive the foundation’s growth.
We would also like to highlight our founder and executive director, Charles Odei, for his leadership and commitment to our mission. We are excited to continue developing the SB Scholars Program and reaching new milestones.
